InSinkErator Evolution Cover Control 3/4 HP Household Garbage Disposer

Expensive, but still a good value
Our previous 3/4 hp In-Sink-Erator finally wore out after 20 years of service. We loved the cover-control on the old model, and I was shocked to find that it's such a rare feature. This high-end unit had it, and I wouldn't have been nearly as happy with wall-switch versions, which we've had in the past. The cover control means you never have to worry about you (or a guest) turning on the disposer when intending to turn on a light. No worries about using an electrical switch with wet hands. Kids are less likely to overload the unit by force-feeding, because the cover is in place when the unit is turned on.

I had never installed a sink disposer before, but I had installed our dishwasher and done similar tasks around the house. Instructions were clear, and I did the whole thing in a couple of hours replacing everything including the drain flange (included with the disposer).

This unit is whisper-quiet, and the 3/4 hp motor never breaks a sweat.

As I...

Buyer Beware if Your Sink is Cast Iron
I've had insinkerators in my last two homes. Very convenient. When mine broke down, I went with the new model which has a magnetic on/off switch. Seemed very advanced. Also great price on Amazon. Warranteed for 7 years in home. HOWEVER, after it was installed by the plumber, you couldn't get the thing to turn off. Called for service. They agreed to come but said if it isn't the device, they would charge $250 for a service call (as much as I paid for the insinkerator). Called back the plumber. He called service. Apparently, because my white sink is cast iron, it needs a different part to fit in the drain. Service knew the part number without looking it up. The part, which is an inch or so longer than the one that comes with the insinkerator, cost $75! That's one third the price of the whole shebang. Unfortunately I was too far down the road to turn back. Given the additional expense, the fancy magnetic switch and whisper quiet operation have lost some of their luster. At...

Expensive But Worth It
I'm impressed at the obvious build quality of the cover control model. It replaced an 18 year old Insinkerator cover control model that suddenly wouldn't turn off and became a shock hazard. This Evolution model snapped right into the old mount (real time-saver) and took about 2 hours to complete including minor plumbing changes. This is my 5th disposal install over the years and was the simplest. It's expensive, but cheaper at Amazon.com than some other online retailers I looked at.

Cover-Activated Control for Safe Operation
Unlike other food waste disposers operated with a wall switch, the Evolution Cover Control includes a cover that enables safe, covered operation and lets you turn the disposer on and off. With this Magnetic CoverStart Activation system, you just place food waste into the disposer, turn on the cold water, and place the cover into the sink opening where magnets--two in the cover and two on the disposer--align to activate the machine.

Cutting-Edge Grind Technology to Liquefy Foods
Along with a rugged steel construction and a powerful 3/4 horsepower motor, the Evolution Cover Control food waste disposer features a MultiGrind system that virtually liquefies food matter before it flows safely to your sewage system. This two-stage grind technology combines a GrindShear ring and a Tri-Action Lug system to finely grind foods and prevent clogs and jams. As a result, you can use the disposer to grind difficult food waste that you wouldn't normally put in a disposer, such as celery and potato peels.

Sound-Reducing Technology for Quiet Operation
Thanks to InSinkErator's SoundSeal Plus system and Quiet Collar sink baffle, the Evolution Cover Control is at least 60 percent quieter than typical food waste disposers--making it possible to hold a conversation, using normal voices, with the disposer running in the same room. This patented technology includes superior insulation around the motor, an anti-vibration sink mount, and an anti-vibration tailpipe to prevent sound transmission from vibrations. The patented sink baffle also helps prevent sound from escaping the throat of the disposer.

Quick Lock Sink Mount for Easy Installation
Like all InSinkErator food waste disposers, to simplify the installation process, the Evolution Cover Control sports a three-bolt Quick Lock sink mount made of stainless steel. If you have an existing food waste disposer, you can likely just twist it off and twist on the Evolution Cover Control. With Quick Lock, replacing one InSinkErator disposer with another is easy.

Economical and
Compared with other installed kitchen appliances, food waste disposers cost little to operate. InSinkErator Evolution disposers use an average of just one gallon of water per person per day, or less than 1 percent of a typical household's total water consumption. They also use an average of three to four kilowatt hours of electricity per year, which typically amounts to less than 50 cents.

In addition, food waste disposers offer an alternative to simply sticking food waste in the garbage can. For those on a sewage system, grinding the waste with the disposer sends it to the local municipal wastewater treatment plant, where it can often processed into bio-solids for use as fertilizer or recycled to produce methane, a renewable source of energy.

Product Information
This product measures 14 by 11 by 14 inches (H x W x D) and weighs 22 pounds. It's designed to be hard-wired to your home's electrical system. With a grind chamber capacity of 40 ounces, the disposer can process a greater volume of food waste than standard disposers.
