Samsung RF4267HARS 25.5 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator - Energy Star
Only a week now, but really impressed
We had this side by side Whirpool Gold for 8 years and we mistakenly taught it to be a good purchase.
When it broke last May, we found that the parts in the compressor compartment were attached with tie-wraps and Sears service were not even able to fix it anymore (because the fridge was cheaply made but also because they are really incompetent).
So when the Sears tech mentioned that KitchenAid has better warranty and after the third unsuccessful repair we decided to replace the Whirpool crap, we went to look for a KitchenAid. But then we learned that they are all made by Whirpool: KitcheAid, Maytag, and some others too. They all look the same, they all have this stupid water dispenser that you have to keep the door open to use it and they are all the same questionable quality as our old fridge.
We finally decided for the Samsung and so far we are very happy with our decision. Even in the store it was standing away from all the others and it was making a huge impression...

SAMSUNG does NOT acknowledge their fridge has a design
Letter to Consumer Reports:
I bought this SAMSUNG RF266ABRS fridge because it was recommended by Consumer Reports in August 2009. This fridge - and other SAMSUNG fridges - should be taken off the recommended list because there is an inherent design defect that causes ice buildup on the evaporator coils.
First there is a rattling noise as the fan hits the ice buildup.
[...]
Then the noise stops when the ice completely blocks the fan but then there is no more cooling happening.
[...]
There is even a class action lawsuit against SAMSUNG fridges:
[...]
Please look into this Samsung ice buildup problem. The Samsung fridges should definitively not be on the recommended list but put on the "do not buy" list. The ice buildup issue occurs about 1 year after purchase. SAMSUNG is not acknowledging the problem and does not help its customers.
Letter to SAMSUNG:
I am deeply unsatisfied on how SAMSUNG handled the warranty policy with my SAMSUNG...

Water water everywhere!
This fridge seemed ideal with all the functionality and deep space, yet compact enough for a Manhattan apartment. But it has some serious structural flaws. Between the cooling cycles it warms up so much that ice cream in freezer melts and the meat (partially) thaws. You can see frost and dew on the bottles etc in the fridge. Then ice maker starts to leak water.

Then everything recools and ice forms again in the ice maker. But because it is formed from the previously melted ice, ice makers gets jammed.

I had 3 different PC Richards technicians come and take a look and they tried everything, including changing the two computer motherboards! But nothing has fixed the problem.

Will try to return it now.
